Drive a Western on the SVR!
Feel the power and hear the awesome sound of the two 65 litre Maybach engines as you take on up to 200 tonnes of coaching stock, with a Severn Valley Railway Driver Experience Course. Included in the course is a tour of the engine room, demonstration of the start up procedure, a close watch on "second man" duties, the opportunity to drive as well as the opportunity to travel in the rear cab and an optional visit to one of the signal boxes.
The dates for Western Courier’s driver experience courses during 2010 are as follows:-

The courses normally run in the mornings and afternoons and include:-
A safety briefing
Tour of the locomotive engine room
Basic instruction on how to drive a Class 52
Being in the cab driving or as “second man” for over 12 miles
Being one of four participants over a total journey of 25 miles
Opportunity for photographs
A presentation folder with certificate and memento of your course
When not in the front cab you will travel in the back cab of the locomotive. The train length will normally be 6 coaches (approx. 200 tonnes). Unfortunately, it is not guaranteed that guests can be accommodated on any of the courses, although a steam service should be running on the day (check for details and subject to normal fares). All courses last half a day and course participants must be physically fit, able to climb a 6ft ladder and be at least 18 years of age.
The course price is £240.00 inc. VAT (as at May 2010). These courses are extremely popular and it is therefore, recommended that you book early to avoid disappointment. For further details, timings etc. please contact:-
