Fascinating Booklet

Postby Western Druid on 12 Oct 2009 09:43 am

I have just purchased a booklet from eBay titled Western Enterprise. It was published by British Rail Western in April 1975.

It has some fascinating photos of construction of the Westerns, samples of advertising using the Western shape, a cab shot of an unidentified Western near Iver with the speedo showing 88mph. There is the usual list of names and scale drawings, but the most interesting piece of information is from notes taken during a meeting at the Loco Drawing Office in Swindon from 26th November 1958 and I quote.

Mr C. Barman had suggested to Mr. Grand that the 2,700 h.p. locomotive should be designed with a distinctive styling which would be recognised as typically W.R.

Does anybody think that they failed the remit?

That explains it then. Thanks for the info.

My first trip was the Western Talisman to York.
