Welcome!

Thank you for taking a look at the Western Locomotive Association's web site. The WLA is the proud owner of two former BR Class 52 "Westerns" (D1013 Western Ranger and D1062 Western Courier) which are based on the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) at Bridgnorth, Shropshire. The purpose of this site is to provide you with some background information on the activities of the WLA and on the history and operation of the two locomotives.

At the present time D1013 Western Ranger is serviceable and regularly operates on the SVR working heritage diesel service trains, schools education trips, driver experience courses and special events, such as Thomas and the Diesel Gala. D1062 Western Courier has been undergoing a major overhaul, which has included complete re-wiring and overhaul of all ancillary equipment. Both locomotives have had recent engine rebuilds. D1062 is expected to be painted in maroon with half yellows during 2008 and should return to traffic before the end of the year.

The WLA has approx. 275No. members and is keen to reach its target of 500No.; an increasing membership will help ensure that we can operate our Westerns for a long time to come! Without members, the WLA could not exist, so if you would like to consider joining, please click here for our membership form!
